I research, teach and curate art of medieval Europe, 500 to 1500. My art historical work is informed by archaeological experience, artistic practice and a lifelong interest in science, mathematics and the natural world.

I hold a BA in fine art and art history from Wellesley College. Before pursuing a PhD, I worked as an artist’s assistant (painting and photography) in Rome and spent several summers excavating at Villamagna in Lazio. Since completing my graduate studies at the Courtauld (MA) and the University of Michigan (PhD), I have been NEH assistant curator for Beyond Words: Illuminated Manuscripts in Boston Collections, A. W. Mellon postdoctoral fellow at CASVA, visiting assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University and

Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the Warburg Institute, School of Advanced Study, University of London.

At present, I am a lecturer in the History of Art at the University of Edinburgh. Feel free to get in touch if you are curious about my work or want to study with me or collaborate.
